PB Planet Spotlight: Hat by Paul Hoppe

Big PB Planet applause for Hat by Paul Hoppe (Bloomsbury U.S.A. Children's Books, 2009). When Henry finds a large-brimmed red hat left on a park bench, he imagines all the fun things he could do with "Hat" if he kept it. But when Henry's Mama points out that someone else might actually need Hat for the same reasons, Henry's has a tough choice to make. What will he decide? Hoppe's illustrations are fanciful and fun (especially two laugh-out-loud drawings of Henry imagining Hat saving his life, then Henry's mental image of the poor Hatless fellow's fate), and the book's "message" will hit home without being too obvious. Zoom on over to your local bookstore and bring it back to your home planet today.
