PB Planet Spotlight: Tsunami

Big PB Planet applause for Tsunami by Kimiko Kajikawa, illustrated by Ed Young (Philomel Books, Penguin Young Readers Group, 2009). On the day of the rice harvest festival, Ojiisan, the wise old rice farmer, doesn't want to go down to the village and join the celebration. Unnerved by a strange feeling that something isn't right, he simply watches from his balcony high up on the mountain--and it is there he spots the monster wave. How can Ojiisan warn the villagers of the danger in time? Brought to life with Ed Young's amazing collage art, it's a riveting tale of the awesome power of nature, but also, the power of the selfless act. Zoom on over to your local bookstore and bring a copy back to your home planet today.

This sounds like a really terrific story. I'll have to keep an eye out for it!

Hi, Jeanne! Yeah, it was really gripping--too much so! (I was reading it aloud to MonkeyKid in the car, and Husband Guy kept taking his eyes off the road to have a peek!) It should come with a sticker, "Enjoy while stationary!"
