PB Planet Spotlight: Paula Bunyan

Big PB Planet applause for Paula Bunyan by Phyllis Root, illustrated by Kevin O'Malley (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2009). When the "little" sister of the famous lumberjack finds that she and her equally humongous singing voice need a lot more room than can be found at home, she heads off to the wide-open North Woods. With her seven-foot-tall black bear "footwarmer" and a couple of wolf back-up singers, Paula's enormously happy... until she comes across a threat to her woods that needs to be set right. Both O'Malley's skilled illustrations and Root's witty text reflect the same bigger-than-life, exaggerated dry humor of the American classic tall tale, but with a modern eco-friendly twist. Zoom on over to your local bookstore and bring it back to your home planet today.
