PB Planet Spotlight: Finding Susie

Big PB Planet applause for Finding Susie by Sandra Day O'Connor, illustrated by Tom Pohrt (A Borzoi Book, Alfred A. Knopf, Random House Children's Books, 2009). The former Supreme Court Justice delivers an excellent finding-the-perfect-pet autobiographical story. Raised on a ranch in the American Southwest, lonely young Sandra attempts to befriend several desert animals in need of help (a tortoise, a cottontail rabbit, and other far more exotic--even dangerous!--critters). But as each returns/is returned to the wild, Sandra still longs for an animal companion that can love her in return. Pohrt expertly illustrates the desert and its denizens, and the endpapers, featuring real pictures of young Sandra's animal friends, are fascinating. Zoom on over to your local bookstore and bring it back to your home planet today!
